TedX Talks, Tips and How to Become a Top Motivational Speaker
TedX has provided me with another platform to to reach and help others. I love sharing actionable tips and content via social media and as a TedX speaker I'm able to do exactly that. What is TedX? How can you become a TedX speaker and hone your speaking craft? Many of the top motivational speakers have practiced and improved via the same methods.
I was always a confident speaker, but practice truly makes perfect. If you’re just starting out, my advice is to get in front of people as many times as possible. Join Toastmasters, find a speaking meet-up and even practice in front of a mirror.
I have met incredible people and fellow speakers through these opportunities and I sincerely hope that my journey can help and inspire you.
TEDx
As a TedX speaker I get to share what I love. I enjoy speaking about entrepreneurship, women in business, overcoming adversity, and offering insights that helped me get to where I am today.
For me, one of the major highlights of being a motivational speaker, was getting a chance to share my story from the TEDx stage.
What is TEDx?
TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe through TEDx events. These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and to share the latest research in their local areas that spark conversations in their communities.
TEDx events include live speakers and recorded TED Talks from many of the World's top motivational speakers, and are organized independently under a free license granted by TED. These events are not controlled by TED, but event organizers agree to abide by the TED Talks format, and are offered guidelines for curation, speaker coaching, event organizing and more. More than 3000 events are now held annually.
How did I become a TedX Speaker?
I had the incredible honor of conducting a presentation for the TEDx Organization in 2018. This opportunity came about due to a dear friend and colleague Adam Keune from the Young Entrepreneurs Council. Adam is an incredible entrepreneur and true mover and shaker in Iowa City. He was on the board of the TEDx Iowa City panel. They were hosting an event that was focused on the importance community and he encouraged me to submit a presentation based on my experience as a former Miss Nevada, and the community (and business!) lessons it taught me.
It was such a special experience and I am so grateful to all the incredible people I met. I encourage anyone who has a story to share to consider applying to the TEDx Organization and become a TEDx speaker. Your experience and knowledge can help others, and speaking is a wonderful platform to amplify your efforts.
